The first choice to be made will be the metal to be used in the ring. Generally, wedding rings are made from gold, silver or platinum. It is possible to design a ring using different shades of gold. Yellow, white and rose gold are available. Platinum is known for its durability, it is a harder metal than gold. Some people chose sterling silver, as silver is less likely to cause allergic reactions. Chose the accents stones with the engagement ring in mind. If your engagement ring features a white diamond solitaire you can chose from almost any precious stone. If you have chosen a non traditional stone for your engagement, like a sapphire, you should probably stick with the same stones for your wedding ring. If you chose not to have an engagement ring, you can make a real design statement with your wedding band using a combination of diamonds and your birth stone.
